Visiting an abandoned Gold Rush Town

We made one interesting stop today to visit the abandoned town of Bodie. Interesting 13 mile curvy road into the town of which the last 3 miles were of gravel with lots of potholes and washboard bumps.

The town is 8,400 ft above sea level and in its heyday (1877-80 ) had ~7000 residents and produced about $34 million in gold.

We took care of Howard the black labrador while his owner took our photo.

Hay 395: Lone Pine to Bodie

Left Lone Pine, CA this morning. We thought the day might bring some more challenging weather since there was some snow on the cars at the gas station. It was cold, around 9 degrees when we got to altitudes of 8,000 ft, but luckily no snow. Beautiful views and great roads all day and it warmed up to low 20's.
